Iceland Day 12
For those of you wondering, yes we are behind on posting. Between long travel days, occasionally spotty upload speeds, and over 2700 pics to sort, time ran out. Now that we’re home, it’s time to start posting days 12 through 20. Lots more to come!
Wrapping up Day 11, we had dinner in Húsavík, a fishing town (and tourist whale watching center) on the north coast. The light was fun:
Day 12 was a long long road to Akureyri, and that was only lunch.
We started with a stop at the Goðafoss waterfall.
A good part of the day was spent driving through the West Fjords. Many of these pictures were “Hail Mary”s, from a moving car. The weather was pretty typical for a good chunk of our trip so far.
We stopped at the Herring Museum in Siglufjörður. Herring was a huge part of the Icelandic economy, and even helped Iceland stave off the worst effects of the Depression, until the herring supplies collapsed in the 1960’s. We bought some smoked herring, delicious! Much better than the creamed or pickled stuff available most everywhere else.
