Iceland Day 8
Drove from Höfn to Seyðisfjörður, through the eastern fjords.
A black pebble beach marked Suðausturland. The pebbles were beautifully sorted by size, from small pea on up. Deborah wanted to bring a truckload, rather than a pocketful, home.
Coastal pics along the fjords.
Pirates!
Geeking out:
Petra’s Stone Collection. This is only a taste, it went on and on, with even more amazing specimens in glass cases inside the house.
Our road maps are not topo maps. We didn’t expect this transition!
Seyðisfjörður is a coastal town, with a weekly car ferry to Denmark. It reminded us a lot of Crested Butte, in topography, style and age of the architecture, and vibe. We only had one night there, wanted to stay longer both to experience the town and surrounding hiking. The town has 500 residents that winter — the preceding pass can be blocked for weeks at a time with blizzards.
