Iceland Day 9

Leaving Seyðisfjörður, we drove back over the pass, took an extended side trip past a hairy house to see puffins, then a long haul through very deserted, barren and extremely lunar landscape to Mývatn. Scenery and ecosystems have changed dramatically before, today the changes escalated dramatically.

Puffins at Borgarfjörður

Two facts about puffins: they winter completely at sea, only living on land to breed, and Icelanders eat them. (Icelanders also eat horse, whale, and some kind of stinky fermented shark fin, we’ve only seen horse so far on the menu.)
